Highlights of Any Previous Volunteer Works: [at Mohandes or elsewhere] *

I have enjoyed volunteering with various committees, divisions and boards in the professional organizations, as I am interested in and learn a lot from being involved with the organization that supports our profession. I have also met many great people through volunteering. Through my experience serving on multiple non-profit boards, committees and councils over the last 20 years, I have gained insight and a deep understanding of the many challenges and opportunities that non-profits grapple with on an ongoing basis. Moreover, I believe that in order for non-profits to remain relevant and vital, they must be publically engaged so that they are "at the table," heard, and understood. As an Ex-BOD member of the Nezam Mohandesi Organization in Iran, I have spent a good deal of my professional life working on professional engineering challenges. Those experiences allowed me to work with Mohandes as civil engineering committee chair and the committee newsletter editor. While taking part in the civil engineering committee activities, I have participated in updating Mohandes constitution to better conforming to the current and future needs. The process has been already started and I look forward to working with the constitution review committee on the planned upgrades and implementation.

Statement of Purpose to Join Mohandes BOD: [~300 words] *

As a Non-profit organization, Mohandes and its members have a vital role in helping solve the major challenges of the Iranian-Canadian engineers and architects, including employment, education, networking, and many more. Engineering is an important part of the solution to the national and global challenges as well. Mohandes should leverage its membership to be the leaders in providing professional services, and other benefits to society and making the world a better place. I am honoured to be a candidate for Mohandes Board of Directors, and am indeed grateful for this excellent opportunity to continue to serve the Society members. If elected, I commit to working hard to serve the community interests, and to promote the interests of the Mohandes members. As part of the Civil Engineering Committee, I have collaborated to develop programs for assisting Iranian professionals and newcomers to enhance technical knowledge and networking. I have seen the value and enrichment that these measures has brought to engineering practice and I will continue to help develop new programs to facilitate access to our professions. Mohandes has a diverse membership that includes people who are very active in the meetings and leadership activities and many who are less active. Mohandes leaders are challenged to provide services to all members in a number of different areas, including meetings, publications, educational opportunities, public outreach, and entertainment. Although, Mohandes has been able to continue to provide high-quality services, the key to our future success is increasing the participation of our members. If elected as your BOD member, my motto will be “Mohandes makes the future,” and I will work with all of you to continue to improve the services and outreach activities that enhance Mohandes membership, as well as provide opportunities for our members to influence the society. In summary, I would like to thank you for participating in the BOD election, for your consideration, and for your support. I believe that my experience in the professional activities and in the Mohandes leadership roles has prepared me to help the Society succeed.
